Déjà  vu

17 March 2015

The CEG Illinois company office has been experiencing a case of Déjà vu this past winter,  partnering with Metromont Corporation, CEG Illinois is designing the new Atlanta Braves and Falcons Stadiums.  Ironically, the existing stadiums, of both teams, were also designed by Metromont and CEG Illinois. The current Atlanta Braves stadium, Turner Field, was originally built as a Track and Field stadium for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Once the Olympics ended the stadium was retrofitted to serve as a ballpark. CEG Illinois did the engineering for both the track and field design, as well as the retrofit into a baseball stadium.  Now, the CEG team is at it again working on the SunTrust Park located in Cobb County.  Although the new stadium will no longer be located in downtown Atlanta it will only be 10 miles north and will be a part of an entire community of shops, restaurants, etc. that will be centered around the new stadium.

Remaining in downtown Atlanta is the new Falcons Stadium, with the current working name of New Atlanta Stadium. In fact, the new stadium is within feet of the Georgia Dome, the current home of the Falcons. The Georgia Dome was completed in 1992 and is attached to the Georgia World Congress Center. The new stadium will utilize that space for parking, shops, and fan interactions. The new Falcons stadium will have a retractable roof further integrating the stadium with downtown Atlanta.
